Raylee’s latest music project was fueled by the intrigue of nature expertly captured in Isabella Tree’s book, Wilding, alongwith National Geographics and landscape paintings. The complex needs of soil, the ways of water and the necessity of natural forest fires are folded in amongst melodies and lyrics, with guitars, drums and piano to bring forth new revelations on our human condition.
Ten new songs were fashioned throughout 2023 and debuted as this new collection with two LIVE recording concerts on 31 January 2024. The energy and applause from the audiences made the occasion all the more special as Raylee shared the songs alongside her illustrious band (Josh Sorenson – VOOM, Russell McNaughton, Daniel Ling – Mountain Boy). Guest appearances included Dr Mark Baynes on keys and piano gifting the evening with playful improvisations and expression. Award winning folk artist Derek Lind duo’d with Raylee for Tōtara, a moving tribute song written for her late brother. Long time friends and musicians, Natasha Mansbridge and Renee Cosio added harmonies.
